What causes Mycelium growth? Many of my samples seem to exhibit extensive growth... should I be concerned

Hi

Yeah oats are laden with fungal spores. The best way to deal with it is to remove old food after a couple of days, I don't tend to find fungus until the foods been around for a while. Warm temperatures ( over 25C) encourage the mould to grow faster than the slime.

It shouldn't be a problem for the slime - it'll just crawl away unless you've got bacterial infection ( nasty smells are the give away) but you could bake your oats until lightly toasted if you want to knock the fungus back a bit
