0038 Mite and P. polycephalum, being in the wrong place at the wrong time . . .

Not to say that anything is being consumed as food but it sure looks as though it is. However, P. polycephalum feeds on the microbial fauna that may accumulate on various substrates including mites and other hapless creatures that may get in the way. The mite has become stranded by having been surrounded by the plasmodium. Chances are, if not for long, the mite may break free and go about its way as will the plasmodium.
