I only found this group of Physarum flavicomum because I noticed an active plasmodium on the underside of a log and monitored its progress. Unusually, the active yellow plasmodium is visible in the photo with the mature sporangia. P. flavicomum is unlike other Physarum spp. in that it doesn't have conspicuous lime in the peridium. Instead, it has a beautiful iridescent peridium that splits as the sporangia mature.
