We tried to get our Slime Mould to solve this maze with my students as part of a practical. You see the results, it managed to sometimes crawl under the plastic but other times followed the walls. If you want to know more details about how to do this and/or got ideas about improving the design of the experiment, feel free to get in touch.

Hello. My 7th 8th graders want to make mazes inside their agar petri dishes for their slime mold.

We were told about using clear plastic overhead projector transparency mazes. Did you find something that worked? Thanks Kathryn

Yes it will always find the shortest route, even if that means cheating by sneaking under the walls!

There's a good example from Adamatsky's lab at http://youtu.be/75k8sqh5tfQ which looks to be similar scale to yours. Did you embed the maze walls into the agar or is it sitting on top? If the walls are stuck into the agar they can't sneak under so easily. Hope you and your students continue to enjoy experimenting...
