Hi everyone,

I’m currently working with Physarum polycephalum and I have a question regarding substrates.

For my research, I need the plasmodium to be in direct contact with a glassy surface (a smooth, non-porous material). I was wondering if Physarum can be successfully cultured on glass.

My current idea is the following:

  • take an active, healthy plasmodium,

  • place it upside down so that the living side is touching the glass surface directly,

  • and then place a small moist piece of paper with an oat flake on top, so that humidity and food are maintained while the plasmodium remains attached to the glass below.

Has anyone tried something similar, or knows whether Physarum can adhere and grow properly on glass or other smooth surfaces?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
