What is your interest in slime moulds? (we need to know you're not a bot or spamster)
I am helping create/design a slime mold (mould?) project for Bio 1 students in high school.
Here are the list of goals for improving the project:
1. A more efficient and fool-proof system for growing/maintaining slime mold
a. How to start from sclerotium
b. How to maintain a growing culture and minimize contamination
c. How to get uniform “starts” from a growing culture
2. An iterated and well-tested set of assays and materials/tools for experimentation
a. Best versions of choice assays, bridge assays, maze assays, U-shaped trap, etc
b. Ideal concentrations, solutions, and means of employing both attractants and repellents.
3. A group of easy-to-implement measurement protocols and tools
a. Time lapse rig set-ups and analysis
b. Best practices for measurements w/o time lapse
c. Measuring growth in different ways:
d. Surface area, path lengths, rate, etc.
e. Still image analysis:
f. Image J/Fiji or explore other programs
I am really excited to learn more about slime molds through this project and I hope to use the Slime Mould Collective as a valuable resource for questions and problems I encounter.
