Light: how does it affect the Physarum?

hi,

I've been experimenting with the Physarum for the past few months, and the results showed that the P. Polycephalum shrinks every time it is exposed to hard white light. Does anyone know if this happens because the Physarum decides to shrink every time, or because it dies a little bit every time?
