Open Embodiments: Illustrated talk and participatory experiment

Thursday 16 April

Studio One, 9.00-10.30pm

Being Slime Mold: a participatory experiment exploring bodies of intelligence

Being Slime Mold sets out to test human capacity for communication and cooperation in comparison with a single celled organism, the slime mold, Physarum polycephalum. Whilst it has no brain or central nervous system, the slime mold demonstrates primitive intelligence and an impressive capacity for collective action. This illustrated talk, experiment and discussion will explore bodies of intelligence and model organisms - by following some simple biological rules we will observe what complex behaviours may emerge.
