I occasionally find this distinctive species on strongly decayed wood on the ground. These fruiting bodies were part of a very extensive colony on a fallen stringybark (Eucalyptus obliqua). After doing some measurements we calculated that there were close to one million fruiting bodies in a spectacular display.
