Tim yes - it's on a rotting log outside my window in a shared garden in Edinburgh. (I don't know what kind of wood, a gnarly twisty thing with lots of rough bark, elm maybe, - I know it was found on a beach about 10 years ago.) If it is Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa then apparently it's pretty ubiquitous, you might be lucky if you tried culturing some bark. I keep meaning to try bringing a bit of the log indoors to see if the slime mould will come out & play if I give it a nice warm moist petri dish... in fact I could maybe cut you off a bit of my log and post it to you if you'd like, if you're in the UK? And you could try culturing it yourself?
What's your project?
many thanks - i would love to find one of these as we are doing a slime mould related project at the moment and this particular type would fit in beautifully to our footage. was it found in the UK?
Hi Tim, yes it's very nice isn't it, I think it is probably Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa.
this is exquisite. do you know what type of slime mould it is?
