I'm curious, what is known about physarum's ability to find three dimensional paths? I ask because I have observed an interesting behavior in my slime cultures on two occasions over the last few weeks. I have been keeping my slimes in disposable food containers which have tapered sides and are approximately 4cm deep. So the slime manifesto said we should see "signs of life" within 24 hours. Already, Daywalker 2 is plotting its escape. We have offered three more oatflakes to convince it to stick around.

I am a computer scientist who teaches a Bio-Inspired computation course. I've been writing simulations of slime molds for some time, and I want to try my hand at grown the real thing.
