Raw oats are fine. Just make sure they are the old fashioned kind, not instant or 1 minute. I place them on a moist paper towel in a small container and spray with distilled water. Then I tilt the container to drain off the excess water and add the sclerotia or plasmodium. This site explains it pretty well: http://www.buildingthepride.com/faculty/pgdavison/PHYSARUM%20cultur...

Agar is a good way to grow slime mold quickly. But agar is hard to find and expensive to buy. It can be found at health food stores and Asian food stores. If you manage to find it you will need to know how to prepare it and a scale that measures in grams is a lot of help.

Thank you so much for your information I will take your advice!

I was looking where to buy plasmodium and saw that there were many different types does it matter what kind I buy or is anything fine? Thanks.

Hello, I am testing out various things.

Raw oats work, but I've noticed that it grows faster on oats that have been boiled a bit. (something like 20 seconds)
And I notice that the slime mold stays on for about 4-5 days sucking out nutrients and then leaves. (it leaves a oat shaped white gue I've noticed)

And the agar, I can highly recommend agar.
A very good recepy is 12 g  Oatmeal (I just grinded some oats in a coffee grinder) + 3 g Agar (I used lima agar agar) with 200 ml of Distilled water.   Bring it to a boil and pour it in containers while stirring a bit.
On this, the slime mold will grow very fast and cover something like a  12 x 12 cm area in just a night.

I really appreciate your detailed description, this information will help me out a lot.
