Cribraria cancellata is one of the easiest Cribrarias to identify because of its colour and distinctive peridial net. I find it every year in the summer months; this collection was found on a very strongly decayed Banksia marginata where it had turned the wood a deep maroon colour.

Even though nature has given up a great deal of its secrets here of late to our probing into the genomes of things, it still amazes me how information is given, taken, and processed by living things to develop the morphologies that we often observe and enjoy.
