0016 Slime mold plasmodium

Slime mold plasmodium cultured from the bark substrate of a Flowering dogwood tree in a moist chamber culture (glass petri dish). Slime molds not only thrive on decaying organic matter but can also be found growing, crawling about, and feeding upon microorganisms and detritus on living tree bark, these are corticolous myxomycetes or slime molds. I have cultured a small number of plasmodia along with their fruiting bodies using the moist chamber method. Fruiting usually takes approximately 2 weeks to occur.
